HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN PATTERN(S)

Making patterns in Photoshop can be easy as long as you follow the steps.

1.Open up Photoshop.

2. a.
Diagonal Lines Pattern: Open a new docuement with a transparent background and a size of 10x10 pixels. Now, select the brush tool and make it a square shape with a size of 1 pixel and the color should be black. Zoom in on the canvas until you feel comfortable. Start from one corner and go up or down diagonally such as below.

b.
Scanlines Pattern: Open a new document with a transparent background and size of 1x2 pixels. Now, select the brush tool and make it a square shape with a size of 1 pixel and the color should be black. Zoom in on the canvas until you feel comfortable. Fill in only half of the canvas. If you're canvas is vertical, then you will make horizontal scanlines and vice versa demonstrated below.

c.
Grids Pattern: Open a new document with a transparent background and size of 10x10 pixels. Now, select the brush tool and make it a square shape with a size of 1 pixel and the color should be black. Zoom in on the canvas until you feel comfortable. Start from one corner and go up all the way then go horizontal all the way and it should look a little something like below.

d.
Checkerboard Pattern: Open a new document with a transparent background and size of 10x10 pixels. Now, select the brush tool and make it a square shape with a size of 1 pixel and the color should be black. Zoom in on the canvas until you feel comfortable. Now fill in the top left and bottom left quarters or vice versa. It should look like this.

e.
Dots Pattern: Open a new document with a transparent background and size of 3x3 pixels or any odd numbers. Now, select the brush tool and make it a square shape with a size of 1 pixel and the color should be black. Zoom in on the canvas until you feel comfortable. Paint the center only once and then you're done. You can see what I mean by looking below.

d.
Diamonds Pattern: Open a new document with a transparent background and size of 10x10 pixels. Now, select the brush tool and make it a square shape with a size of 1 pixel and the color should be black. Zoom in on the canvas until you feel comfortable. Do the same thing you would with the diagonal pattern but make two diagonal lines intersecting in the center like the below.

3.Once you've made your pattern, go to the top menu toolbar and then go to Edit>Define Pattern then make a name for it.

4.Now open a new image and select your Flood Fill tool. Change the little dropdown box setting that says "Foreground" or "Foreground Color" to "Pattern". Now you're pattern should be there!

(optional)5. If you want your patterns to be available for others, go to "My Computer" or "Computer" on your computer. Then type the following in appropiatley: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Appdata\Roaming . YOURUSERNAME should be the username for your account on your computer. There should be a folder there that's called "Adobe". Open that then open the folder that's called "Adobe Photoshop CS4" or whatever version of Photoshop CS you have. Then open the folder called "Presets". Browse through until you find a folder called "Patterns". Open it then find your patterns. Select your patterns and send them to a Compressed(.zip) folder. Move the Compressed(.zip) folder to your documents. Upload the Compressed(.zip) folder to your site and then make a link to it. Once people click on the link, it will ask them if they want to Open or Save the file and such. Good Luck. :)

Enjoy.
